Do you get breakouts and boils in your skin folds? No fun AT ALL. We call it Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS).
Fortunately we have tons of Rx therapies to offer you, in our office. But it sure doesn't hurt to add some at-home remedies that are proven, right?
Dr. Eads' recommendations:
1) Zinc.
This has been shown to dramatically reduce the frequency and severity of outbreaks. I recommend it to all my patients. Please take with food, so it doesn't make you queasy!
Take 60 mg a day of the EZ melts zinc. They are 30 mg chews. Take with separate meals. The research shows that often 90 mg a day is needed. Keep that in mind.
2) Hibiclens.
This pre-op surgical soap is gentle on the skin and kills the bacteria involved in HS.
3) Inositol.
This helps lower insulin resistance which is often associated with HS.
4) Iron, Vitamin D, Vitamin A, and Vitamin B12. These supplements have shown promise in treating HS, but usually only when there is a deficiency documented. I don't push any of these on everyone, because I want them to focus on the zinc. Zinc is really that important! But if you have a deficiency in any of these others, taking them can help your HS a lot.
For instance, if you're a lady with heavy periods, get an iron level checked, and/or take iron. In this case we recommend Solgar gentle iron 25 mg twice a day.
If you want to explore other Rx and OTC options, please call our office for an appointment!!
No hype, just what they trust for healthier skin
